Calderdale Council have gone through a significant rationalisation process to condense their office requirements from eleven offices to four. The Princess Buildings is the largest of the four offices at 44,350 sq ft, providing 339 workstations for around 576 staff. The project involves the significant redevelopment of the three Grade II listed buildings that make up The Princess Buildings to provide a more flexible and efficient working environment with operating principles that encourage agility across the workforce.
The scope of the works include external fabric repairs, internal remodelling, demolition of an 1960’s extension and rear core areas and the construction of a new extension and central core providing improved accessibility for all staff and visitors.
A Smarter Working Policy has also been produced with updated vision, values and behaviours which will be implemented in this new council office building, in order to increase the utilisation of the office accommodation.
To work more efficiently across the council, to support and enable the transformation of services and deliver significant savings back to the council.
We are providing Project Management and Employer’s Agent services for the redevelopment of this Grade II listed building. Our role has included extensive stakeholder management due to the complex nature of the client and the project. We produced a Stakeholder Engagement Plan to ensure that all necessary parties such as users, facilities management, English Heritage and neighbours were engaged with appropriately and at the right time.
Site logistics was also a challenge given the constrained and complex nature of the site and the extensive demolition, new building and structural works. We developed a site logistic plan for the site which helped inform some of the design decisions such as structural member sizes, building technology.
