Hylton Castle Restoration

HLF funded restoration of a Grade I listed building and Scheduled Ancient Monument to create a flagship heritage attraction for Sunderland.

The Vision

The project aims to create a flagship heritage attraction while improving visitors facilities across the site. The new facility provides flexiblke learning and education spaces, a cafe and meeting and event facilities over three transformed floors.

There is a strong emphasis on young people, offering training and apprenticeship programmes, opportunities un heritage asset management, interpretation, tourism, hospitality and governance. The outside space allows for local and citywide events to be staged while being sympathetic to the surroundings.   

Our Role

We provided full Project Management including extensive stakeholder management and liaison with Heritage Lottery Fund, Heritage England, neighbours, local community and planners.
