The RA is undergoing a transformative redevelopment due to complete in time for its 250th anniversary in 2018.

Currently sheltered by the largest temporary roof in the United Kingdom, the project is on track to achieve its first sectional completion in May. This comprises of the new art handling suite, which will be required to facilitate the 248th summer exhibition later this year, and will provide vacant possession for the following phase of works.

Designed by David Chipperfield RA, and supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), the ongoing redevelopment will link the two acre site, including Burlington House and Burlington Gardens, for the first time via an impressive link bridge. This will showcase the elements that make the RA unique, sharing with the public the historic treasures in its Collection, the work of its Academicians and the RA Schools, alongside its world-class exhibitions programme.
