Plans for further restoration and extension of the iconic music venue approved by Manchester City Council
Monday 2 October 2017
Manchester City Council have approved plans for the second phase of development at Band on the Wall which will significantly increase the capacity in the main venue from 350 - 500. Plans also include improved learning facilities and a smaller, more intimate venue on-site which will have a capacity of 80. The project includes the restoration and exntesion to the Cocozza building which is one of only a few remaining structures from the days of the Victorian Smithfield Market.
The planned learning complex will include a rooftop AV suite, allowing young people and education participants to create new digital work by engaging with international touring artists. The learning spaces will also be home to improved archive facilities, enabling the organisation to better catalogue its library of historical content.
OMI Architects have designed the scheme.
