Buro Four's project 100 Union Street recently won the Alliance Award 2018 at International Construction Project Management Association (ICPMA) Annual Awards in London.
The ICPMA Annual Awards Programme is committed to the spread of best practice in construction project management. It recognises world class delivery of projects, and also the role of innovation in raising quality.
The “Alliance Award” is given to those projects that demonstrate excellence in undertaking construction project management and this award is evaluated using the 7 principles of “the better way.” These are:
Located on a brownfield site adjacent to a Network Rail viaduct, the 4-storey building consist of piled foundations, concrete frame and brickwork, along with aluminium industrial style glazing. It presents approximately 25,000 sq. ft. of commercial office space, with exposed services, raised timber access floors and acoustic slatted timber internal cladding. The third floor has a spectacular board-marked concrete soffit and there is a roof terrace with views of The Shard for communal use on the top of the building.
The project resulted in success on quality and process that surpassed all client expectations. This was due to the hands on approach of Buro Four project manager Emily Slupek. She was passionate about delivery on the ethos of collaboration.
The client commented:
"As client for the development of our new building at 100 Union Street we have welcomed the calm and impressive project management services that Emily undertook for us in delivering this innovative office building under a design and build contract with contractors 8Build.
The building although looking simple on completion had many complexities in both its proximity to the live rail to the rear, innovative heating and cooling system, innovative acoustic wall treatment, complex use of traditional steel windows upgraded to meet current thermal standards all needing to be integrated in a tight programme.
Emily maintained an exceptional understanding of every detailed part of the project without ever losing sight of the overall intention and aspiration. As a result the finished building has let well and quickly and that is due to the wider efforts of the team managed so effectively by her. Emily has worked calmly, precisely and tirelessly to help deliver our project."
