A Model of Equality at 40 Chancery Lane

Associate Director, Charmaine Knower, recently featured in Chancery Lane magazine - The Lantern, where she spoke about her role at the 40 Chancery Lane development and how she has generated a career for herself in a strongly dominated male industry.

The feature article focuses on diversity and equality in the property and construction industry, highlighting recent RIBA statistics on how the construction industry employs more than 2.5 million people and women only make up 11% of that. Although the number of women in the industry is increasing, there is a strong drive to get more girls to follow a career into construction. Charmaine goes on to explain how a career in Project Management offers very varied days, whilst working on all aspects of a job from acquisition, feasibility, design, procurement and managing works on-site.

As well as interviewing a number of other women working on the 40 Chancery Lane development, the article also touches on a number of nationwide incentives and initiatives, such as the WISE Campaign, to educate and encourage girls to think of career options in typically male orientated industries.

40 Chancery Lane is seen as model project for the equality of women within construction, with women taking the lead roles of Architects, Structural Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, and Project Manager.
